Boudoir Photography: The Newest Decorating Craze!
Mar
No Comments   Posted by Kate |  Category: Session Tips

Call it a series, call it what you will. But I’m here to teach you all the ways a boudoir photo session can drastically improve your life (don’t worry, tongue is firmly implanted in cheek)!  After reading the ever popular “Boudoir Photography: The Newest Diet Craze!” blog post, head on back and learn about how boudoir or pin up photography is the newest decorating craze.

The other day we discussed possible locations for your boudoir pics. I’ll make it easy for you and recap, but feel free to go back and delve into pros and cons of each:

  • The first option is a hotel.
  • The second option is my studio.
  • The third option is in your bedroom, or home.

OK. So here we are. How does boudoir photography help you decorate your home? Easy! After you book your boudoir photo session by deciding what hits your sweet spot, it’s time to clean up your bedroom and make it photo ready!  So let’s get decorating.

First thing ladies- clean up the clutter! Look around the room and figure out what the non sexy distractions are.  Get rid of magazines, too many nick nacks (some are good) and almost anything that has nasty cords. Dust, vacuum and wash any sheets or bedding.

Next we create the scene through your choice of bedding (think color and texture), pillows (fluffy/feathery/inviting) and lighting (I’ll do that part). For color and texture, think sheens, silks that reflect light a bit and deep, rich colors like reds, crimsons, pink (of course!) that feel sensual and luxurious.  Think about adding small things that conjure up romance and pretty up the area like candles and flowers.  Mirrors! Mirrors are our friend believe it or not so having one strategically placed is a great idea. And of course at home, we can head on over to the shower area, so clean it up and consider a new, translucent curtain — wahooo!

Although you could spend a fortune on improvements, the truth is as long as you’re in it, we’ll make it sexy! So don’t be shy about shooting in your own room or home.  The only thing left to do is contact me.

Location of Your Boston Boudoir Photo Shoot

Happy hump day Sweet Tooth blog readers!  Grab a cup of coffee, a piece of candy and read up on some great options for your next boudoir photography session location.

Boudoir pics

The second most frequent question I get asked, after “What should I wear?,” is “Where do I get my boudoir pictures taken … ?”  Welp, thanks for asking, there are many options, many fabulous options:

  • The first option is a hotel. Any hotel will do, but often “boutique hotels” are more intimate, are usually more luxurious and are a bit more quirky in nature.  The advantages to having your boudoir photo session in a hotel are many.  For instance, your bedroom might not be so clean, intimate, luxurious OR quirky.  Another advantage to holding your session in a hotel room is that it is a “new” scene, thus mysterious. Your hubby will appreciate that you went to extraordinary measures for these intimate photographs.  Also, if you intend your boudoir pics to be a surprise gift and you live with your significant other – it’s simply easier to shout, “I’m headed out to the mall!” rather than coordinate a time when your hubby won’t be home and possibly get caught (but how fun is it to live dangerously!?). Finally and most importantly,  it’s just plain fun and exciting to be in a hotel room.
  • The second option is my studio. If you’re thinking, “Make me Dita Von Teese please!” and we are shooting pin up photography specifically, heading to my studio near Boston is definitely the best option.  Also, my studio has the same advantage as above regarding coordinating a time with your significant other to be out of your house (…but how fun is it to live dangerously!?).  We can create an intimate scene in a studio, but (I hesitate to write this), it may feel more forced. It’s painful to write that- I am working on it and will have some great news come Summer 2010 regarding transformation of a studio space. Stay tuned!
  • The third option is in your bedroom, or home. This option most definitely has it’s advantages. For instance, you are probably very comfortable in your own home.  A big advantage to holding the boudoir session in your home is price.  If you’re on a budget, knocking out the cost of a hotel room means you can splurge more on romantic photography gifts and other eye candy!  Also, when your significant other sees the resulting album of your divine boudoir portraits he/she will be FLOORED that you managed to pull it off in your shared space and will get an absolute charge out of the fact you did that in our home.  In fact for those sessions held at a hotel, I often advise bringing something from home to place in the ‘scene.’

So there you have it! Three amazingly delicious options to hold your Boston boudoir photo shoot! Please email me at sweets@sweettoothboudoir.com with any questions at all- or heck, just to say hello!  Click on over to the investment page if you’re looking for boudoir photography prices and to see the “sweet spot” packages.

No Comments   Posted by Kate |  Category: Session Tips, What To Wear

When perusing your closet for what to bring to your next boudoir session with us- consider moving over to his (or her) side of the closet.  The old “Sexy Shirt Switch” is a major turn on.  Consider ties, dress shirts, favorite sports shirts, tank tops … you get the idea.  Pair that shirt with a set of heels … instant fever!

But remember! If you are Getting your Sugar Fix of boudoir pics as a secret gift and your shoot is outside of your home, be careful when smuggling out the clothing in question. If your hubby notices their favorite shirt is MIA, you might be some unwanted questions!
