Boudoir Photography FAQ

What is boudoir photography?
The French are a romantic, confident and sexy bunch. Thus, it comes as no surprise the term "boudoir" originates from the French verb bouder, meaning "to pout." Historically a boudoir referred to a woman's private bedroom or dressing room - a very intimate setting. Boudoir photography does not always take place in a bedroom setting, but it is romantic and intimate in nature, and should always delight in the beauty of women.

Does Sweet Tooth Boudoir have a studio?
YES! We are proud to announce the opening of our studio. We are conveniently located in Medford, MA close to Rt. 93 and Tufts University. Working in a studio allows us to create the scene for you. Contact us today to discuss your decorating options.

Is it really awkward to do a boudoir photo shoot?
If you are a shy person, then at first, yes. But within minutes you will realize we are normal people, easy to talk to and non judgemental. Boudoir photography should be fun, and confidence boosting. From my perspective behind the camera, the most amazing thing to see is the transformation of a woman as she settles into her skin, gets into the shoot and realizes that yes- she is confident and sexy!

What should I wear to a boudoir photo shoot?
Most importantly bring outfits that you feel comfortable in. Popular types of clothing for pin up photography include: lingerie, bra-and-panty sets, bustiers, teddies, baby dolls, boy shorts, fishnets, thigh high stockings, garter belts, corsets, robes, your guy or girl's favorite shirt. It's best to bring 3 – 4 different outfits, a couple of different pairs of heels, and some jewelry. We are more than happy to work with you on putting it all together! Why not choose sustainable lingeire? Here is more information on eco friendly lingerie. For more ideas and inspiration, head over to the Sweet Tooth blog and search the What to Wear Boudoir category.

Are there ways to prepare for the boudoir session?
A couple hours before the session, be sure you're not wearing any undergarments, or socks that will leave red marks on your skin. Something else to think about is the state your nails and toe nails are in. Spend some time the night before pampering yourself with a mani-pedi. If you opt to have our stylist do your makeup and hair, come with clean, dry hair and face.

Is there an age limit? Do I need to be a size 4?
Absolutely not.

Where does a boudoir session take place?
Boudoir pictures can take place at the location of your choice. Sweet Tooth is happy to announce the opening of our studio conveniently located off of rt 93 in Medford, MA. Hotels are also popular choice. We often do "marathon sessions" at boutique hotels in and around Boston. These sessions reduce the cost of the hotel, please contact us for details. Another option is to photograph at your home, in your bedroom or elsewhere. If you're taking these photos with the intention of giving them as a gift to your partner, when he or she sees and recognizes the setting - it's all the more intimate. Can I bring friends to my photo shoot?
If bringing a friend helps you to feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera, then please do. If you'd like to set up a session with multiple friends - it's always a blast! Contact us for discounted rates.

Do you do a lot of retouching to the photos?
Hear me, and hear me clear: you are beautiful! Approximately 6 - 8 hours of photo editing is normal for a standard shoot. The adjustments include color changes, tonal changes and artistic vision changes. If you feel like you'd like to see some retouching on top of that, it is a service I offer for a fee.

Are you a green company?
We only have one earth. One chance. We owe it to ourselves and to those who will come after us to be conscious of and responsible for the choices we make every day. Read more about what Sweet Tooth Boudoir does to go green.
